If You’re Not Following These 3 Basic Festival Rules, Nothing Else Will Matter.

A few weeks ago I wrote and published an article that is longer than anything I’ve written in a long time. At nearly 2400 words, it’s probably the longest thing I’ve ever written on this site. It may be the most useful thing I’ve written on the subject of festival submissions since finishing the original text of Film Festival Secrets (the book) six years ago.

I didn’t publicize it widely until now because I was testing different headlines against one another here on the site. (You might have seen the headlines go by in the little bar at the top of the page.) “3 Best Tips for Festivals,” “3 Fundamental Rules of Festival Submissions,” stuff like that. This one got the most clicks, by far:

If You’re Not Following These 3 Basic Festival Rules, Nothing Else Will Matter.

You’ll find the article here. I didn’t want to relegate it to a simple blog entry with a complicated, date stamped URL, and I didn’t want it to roll down the page and into the fog of history as I posted new entries. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be useful and relevant for a long while to come.

Let me know what you think.
