Stop Making Horrible Crowdfunding Pitch Videos

When somebody gets as worked up on camera as Emily Best does in this clip about pitch videos, you can tell they’re making an important point. It’s also pretty entertaining – Best never shies away from plain talk while making a strong case for her point of view.

I’ve been gathering advice about pitch videos for a project of my own coming up soon – very soon – and this is some of the best. Particularly welcome is the idea that confessional-style pitches made directly into the camera are often the least effective. There’s nothing wrong with seeing a campaign’s creator on camera, but there’s so much more you can show your prospective backers!

Tip of the hat to filmmaker resource Film Courage for capturing this wisdom and sharing it with YouTube.
